Charities

Raising money for charities through our performances has been part of the Civil Service Choir’s ethos from the first concert in 2009. Each year we aim to do at least one concert to raise money for charities and we also raise money through our annual carol service. Many of our charity concerts have had free admission with a charity collection at the end.

So far we have raised

£58,000

£27,390 has been raised for our principal charity, the Cardinal Hume Centre, based on Horseferry Road, Westminster. The Centre does incredible work to alleviate poverty and homelessness, and transforms people’s lives right on our doorstep.

£5,870 has been raised for the Charity for Civil Servants, which for 140 years has provided welfare and other support to current, former and retired civil servants when they face tough times.

£6,550 has been raised for The Lifeboat Fund – helping the RNLI to save lives at sea. It is the oldest Civil Service charity – 160th anniversary in 2026.

£3,790 has been raised for Sinfonia Smith Square – supporting the concert hall, its orchestra that establishes careers for young musicians, and its education programmes.

£8,590 has been raised for St Stephen’s, Rochester Row – supporting all the work it does in the local area

£2,590 has been raised for the Diocese of London Easter Appeal, supporting relief projects overseas.

We have also raised £2,730 for Armed Forces charities during First World War Centenary performances at the Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks.
